I would like to take a moment to introduce you to the Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (MACDL), an important part of Maine's legal community.
Defending criminal cases is a job that often is performed in isolation, but it doesn't need to be. I see MACDL as an organization in which members support each other in the uphill battle to ensure justice for those accused of crimes. MACDL is working hard to become a more valuable and more consistent resource for its members. Some of the ways we accomplish this mission are:
Continuing Legal Education-MACDL offers a full day seminar that features nationally-recognized leaders of the criminal defense bar. MACDL members pay a reduced rate for these seminars and you can satisfy almost all of your CLE requirements just by attending this seminar.
Newsletter-Each quarter, MACDL publishes a newsletter with the latest criminal law updates, news and not guilty verdicts.
Website-Payment of your MACDL dues will allow you access to the "Member" area of the website by using your e-mail address as both your username and your password. There, you can review articles on current issues for defense lawyers or submit an article about something going on in your practice. A discussion board is set up and we hope it will become a hub for exchanging ideas among the defense bar. A legal library is set up, but needs content. Send us your briefs, memoranda, or recommended articles.
Legislative and Policy Advocacy- MACDL has an excellent reputation and standing among courts and policy-makers in the State. MACDL is routinely reserved a spot on study commissions and ad hoc groups dealing with criminal justice issues. When the Chief Justice communicates with stake-holders about the courts, MACDL is among the addressees, along with the Bar Association, the Trial Lawyers, the Prosecutors, etc. MACDL's legislative committee regularly reviews and responds proposed legislation on behalf of our members.
Please take a moment to browse through our site. Since portions of this website are available to the public we wish to remind you that the information you find here is not legal advice, and we offer it without any guarantee or warranty. Legal advice should be sought from the attorney of your choosing and I believe that the MACDL membership has the best in the profession. Enjoy the website.
